Every now and then I get the urge to take off for a hot destination near the beach, where I can read and swim and just take it easy. I figure I’m like most everyone else in needing to keep a careful watch over the budget. It seems likely that we’ll need to put off the expensive trips for the time being. There are a few places with hot weather, hotels with pools, the beach and a few opportunities for saving a little money.
The first place that comes to mind is good old Southern California. There are pushing 100 miles of great accessible beaches between San Diego to Malibu, dozens of places where you can lay out your towel. Specifically, you can find many nice hotel deals online, and this resort city on the Yucatan Peninsula has a lot to offer summer travel visitors. The Hotel Zone has over 100 hotels, most of which have beach frontage. The weather can actually be too hot in the middle of summer.
There are a bunch of other resort cities in Mexico besides Cancun. Other examples include Cozumel and Jamaica. But spend the time necessary to research carefully your intended destination, not only to make sure the trip goes well but also to learn about the area (culture, history, interesting attractions, etc.) to make the trip more fun. Fortunately you can accomplish a lot of study in a short period of time with a good internet connection.
